Section 1. Understanding transversal skills and competences
This section discusses the understanding and importance of transversal skills and competences and how these skills can be developed with the primary aim of preventing radicalisation among migrant youths. There are three lessons in this section, two theoretical and one video for group discussion or individual reflection. Lesson 1 explains the meaning of transversal skills and competencies, and lesson 2 takes us through the importance of transversal skills. In lesson 3, we will explore ways in which transversal skills and competences can be developed among youth workers in preventing radicalisation.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this section, learners will be able to:
- Understand the concept of transversal skills and competences that can be applied in preventing radicalism among migrant youth.
- Outline the importance of acquiring transversal skills and competences.
- Explore and reflect on ways to develop transversal skills and competencies that can lead to the prevention of radicalisation among migrant youth at risk.
Section 2: Applying transversal skills and competences in preventing radicalisation among migrant youth
This section deals with the application of transversal skills and competences through the understanding of democratic values in preventing radicalisation amongst migrant youth. Lesson 1 deals with the application of transversal skills through the promotion of democratic values. Lesson 2 discusses GAME, an organisation which actively engages vulnerable youth in sports, and at the same time trains them to be youth workers and acquire transversal skills and competences, thus enabling them to transfer these skills to other vulnerable youth in their communities. Lesson 3 is a video about H.K.H Crown Prince Frederik in his motivational speech during the Crown Prince’s Social Award 2022 in which GAME emerged the winner. He emphasised how the Playmaker concept has been instrumental in creating a safe and attractive meeting place for positive and strong social systems for vulnerable youth.

At the end of this section, learners will be able to:
- Understand youth worker’s roles in imparting transversal skills and competences in the form of democratic values that will help prevent radicalism among migrant youth.
- Understand how engaging and training youth as instructors can be important in creating an inclusive environment while also making them role models for other vulnerable youth.
- Reflect on necessary approaches and methods so that these characteristics and skills can be utilised to their full potential.
- Learn how transversal skills and competences should be assessed.
